This beautiful event will still take place, although there may be changes to the usual procedure.
One of Willow Wood’s most popular events over the past few years has been the Butterfly Memory Release when hundreds of beautiful Painted Lady butterflies are released into the Hospice gardens, each one in memory of someone special.
Because it is such a wonderful occasion and means so much to so many local people, Willow Wood has pledged that it will take place on Saturday 11 July as planned.
Although it is looking like the current social gathering restrictions may be somewhat relaxed, due to safety considerations it has been decided that the butterflies will be released in one mass group by a member of the Hospice staff. This will create a breath-taking spectacle and as it will be broadcast live on Facebook page people can still feel they are part of the day.
A video will also be taken to enable the ceremony to be viewed at leisure on the Willow Wood website.
Everything else about the release will stay the same. One of our chaplains will bless the butterflies prior to their release and certificates will be emailed or posted as a memento of the day.
As this has always been such a family oriented day, with face painters, live entertainment and children's games as part of the full day and Summer Fete, we're holding a Butterfly Art Competition for children of all ages, with a prize of a huge chocolate hamper!
Just create your artwork any way you like, whether using crayons, paint, glitter, making a collage or colouring in. Have a photo taken holding the artwork and post to our Facebook page. All photos will be put into an album with a winner chosen at random on Saturday 11 July.
We've got some free colouring in guides to download - just click on the butterfly you want to colour:
You can dedicate as many butterflies as you wish, and you do not need to have any connection with Willow Wood - the Butterfly Memory Release is open to everyone.
We are asking for a minimum donation of £15 for each butterfly; please dedicate here:
