Latest Virtual Fundraising

This year it will take around £2.8million to enable Willow Wood to care for local people, and a massive 79% of that has to be raised from within our community. With town centre shops currently closed and organised fundraising events cancelled or postponed, the Hospice is looking at a number of virtual fundraisers to help bridge the gap.

Our first was a very popular (and exciting) virtual balloon race with hundreds of people taking part. The winning balloon, bought by Theresa Wych in the name of her grandson Kain, travelled a virtual 341k – and both Theresa and Kain were delighted with the prize of a chocolate hamper.

In previous years, we’ve had quite a few teams enter the Three Peaks Challenge where participants have to climb Scafell Pike, Mount Snowden and Ben Nevis all within 24 hours. Our virtual Three Peaks can be achieved by climbing the stairs – and we won’t hold you to the same timescale! Simply ascend your staircase at home 412 times to represent Scafell Pike, 475 times for Snowden and 587 times for Ben Nevis. Oh – and going down doesn’t count!

Alternatively, Blackpool Tower is the equivalent of just 69 flights! Just let us know what you’re doing and we’ll gladly share your online fundraising page on our social media.

Our nurses take around 12,000 steps every day as they care for patients on our Inpatient Ward. Could you walk a mile in their shoes? Ask friends, relatives and colleagues to sponsor you and take your steps either during your daily exercise, on a treadmill or round the garden – you’ll get there sooner than you think. 12,000 steps is just over five and a half miles, so you will soon reach your goal and raise some vitally needed funds for Willow Wood.

If you’re normally out on the town on a Friday night, why not have a virtual cocktail party. Invite your friends via Zoom or one of the many party platforms and each make a donation to the Hospice.

And if, like many of us, you’re working from home could you donate what you are saving in bus or train fares, or your parking fees? Just give us a ring on 0161 330 1100 during normal office hours and we’ll send you a loose change box to drop your virtual fares or fees in. It really will make such a difference to us and will help us continue our loving care for the people of Tameside and Glossop
