Pauline, support worker
I now work as a support worker in our inpatient unit and I love it.
I’ve been at Willow Wood for 13 years now, the first 12 as a catering assistant. It was always my intention to work with the nurses, but it’s such a wonderful place nobody leaves, and I had to wait until the right opportunity came along. Now, I’m the happiest person in the world!
We’re so fortunate here in that we can spend time with the patients and their relatives. I feel that when the patients are admitted we know they’re going to be well looked after, they’re going to get the best possible care.
But it’s not just about the patients, we care for their relatives as well. We can’t always know the journey that their loved ones have been through, they may have spent years caring, and they all seem to breathe a sigh of relief when they’re here. They can stop being a carer, and go back to being a husband, wife, son or daughter, and we can support them. Our care is personal, and we respond to their needs.
I just love being here, I love working with our wonderful team, and I look forward every day to coming in. It’s not work, it’s a privilege.
