The Bubble Rush
A bubbletastic day! Fun for all the family as the Bubble Rush came to Tameside
Awesome! Fantastic !Amazing! Can’t wait to do it again! Just some of the comments from Willow Wood’s Bubblers about their first Bubble Rush, held on Sunday 23 July at Dukinfield Rugby Club.
It really was a fantastic event.Even the sun shone down as five bubble stations filled up with clouds of coloured foam. The atmosphere was amazing as around 500 people, from toddlers to silver surfers, threw themselves into the bubbles raising thousands for Willow Wood as they did so. Some were running in memory of a loved one, some to support their local Hospice while having a great day out, but everyone agreed that it was an incredible way to spend a Summer afternoon.
The photos and videos really tell the story, so please check out the Willow Wood facebook page if you’d like to know more about the Bubble Rush or to relive the fun. It will definitely be in the fundraising diary for next year, so keep in touch with facebook, twitter and www.willowwood.info for details of the next one – it’s sure to be a sellout!
It was a bittersweet day as well; it was the very last event organised by John Fellowes and Dot Birchfield before their retirement on Friday 29 July. John and Dot have clocked up the unbelievable figure of 38 years working for Willow Wood between them, both starting before the Hospice was even built. Over the years they have raised incredible sums to help Willow Wood continue to care for local people, and Dot was the driving force behind this final, wonderful fundraising event.
Dot said “I always believed that the Bubble Rush would be a great addition to our calendar, and I’m thrilled my final event has been so amazing! My thanks to everyone who helped - our wonderful volunteers, Mediskills who donated their time and expertise today, Tameside Radio who were broadcasting live, Sizzlers Catering, Sweetest Feeling Candy Carts, facepainter Cheryl Davenport, and of course everyone who either took part in, or sponsored someone, in the Bubble Rush”.
John agreed “It’s been a wonderful day. We’ve loved every minute of our time at Willow Wood, and I’d like to thank our community from the bottom of my heart for all their support over the years, it’s been tremendous”.
